ABSTRACT

The study was undertaken to investigate the effects of Periodic Testing on academic achievement of senior secondary school students in economics. The population of the study comprises of all economics students and teachers in some selected secondary schools. Two hypotheses were posited and tested using the chi-square at a 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that:- there is a significance difference in the academic achievement of students in economic under periodic testing method and other method of teaching. But on the contrary, there is no difference based on gender on the assimilation of students under periodic testing method. In the light of the findings from this study, it was recommended that economics teachers should strive to see that at least four C.A's are given to students per semester in order to improve their academic achievement and that teachers should also be properly trained on the methods and techniques of Periodic Testing construction and administration for the system to be effective
